Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson arrested on perjury charges

It is being reported this morning that former News of the World editor Andy Coulson has been arrested in connection with alleged perjury charges.

Coulson, the Prime Minister David Cameron’s former head of communications, was arrested by Strathclyde Police officers in London on Wednesday morning, according to a report by STV.The charges are thought to relate to the Tommy Sheridan News of the World case. Former MSP  Sheridan was convicted of committing perjury during his defamation action against the News of the World. Coulson was one of the witnesses at Sheridan’s trial.

A police spokeswoman said: “Officers acting for Strathclyde Police Operation Rubicon detained a 44-year-old man in London this morning under Section 14 of the Criminal Procedure Scotland Act on suspicion of committing perjury at the High Court in Glasgow. It would be inappropriate to comment further in this case.”
