This is something that they don’t put in the ads. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) been accused of killing almost 30,000 animals in the last 11 years.

According to a blog on the Huffington Post, around 2,000 animals pass through PETA’s front door every year and very few make it out alive.

The report does at first seem incredibly difficult to believe, but the evidence is quite compelling.

Huffpo says that 96% of these animals are killed and removed by a pet cremation firm. The post says that in between visits from the cremation firm dead animals are stored in a giant $10,000 walk-in freezer that PETA installed for the very purpose of storing animals killed on its premises.

Most animal lovers find this hard to believe. But seeing is believing. And if it is true that a picture speaks a thousand words, the following images speak volumes about who and what PETA really stands for.

The PETA headquarters is on the aptly named Front Street. While claiming to be an animal rights organization, PETA does not believe animals have a right to live. Instead, it believes that people have a right to kill them, as long as the killing is done “humanely,” which PETA interprets to mean poisoning them with an overdose of barbiturates, even if the animals are not suffering. In 2012, 733 dogs entered this building. They killed 602 of them. Only 12 were adopted. Also in 2012, they impounded 1,110 cats. 1,045 were put to death. Seven of them were adopted. They also took in 34 other companion animals, such as rabbits, of which 28 were put to death. Only four were adopted, according to the Huffington Post.

The post goes onto claim that when police investigated a supermarket dumpster full of garbage bags they found the bodies of dead animals killed by PETA inside.

A vet who gave some of the animals to PETA claims that the were “healthy” and “adoptable” when the animal charity took them in.

“A mother cat and her two kittens, all perfectly healthy and adoptable and none in danger of being killed until they were given to PETA by a veterinarian who was trying to find them homes and was told by PETA employees that they would have no problem adopting them out. After PETA lied to him and the mother and her kittens were entrusted to their care, they reportedly killed them, within minutes, in the back of a van.”

The story looks like really bad news for PETA and could turn off some of its high profile supporters who have featured in ads for the campaigning group.

Some of those include Alicia Silverstone, Pamela Anderson, Eva Mendes, Charlize Theron, Alyssa Milano, Justin Bieber, Sir Roger Moore, Paul McCartney, and former ‘N Sync singer Lance Bass who has posed in ads promoting pet adoption.

FT CEO John Ridding, said: “Since 1888, the FT has grown to become the world’s most authoritative source of global business and political news, providing a trusted guide to international affairs, and we are now read by more people than ever before.

“During our 125 year history, much has changed, especially with the digital disruption of recent years. But there are some crucial constants – the quality of our journalism and the innovation we have brought to bear in adapting to the changing demands of our readers and in creating a dynamic multi-channel business.”

FT editor Lionel Barber said, “The Financial Times has been the gold standard in business and financial journalism for 125 years and we intend to do the same for the next 125.”

The campaign features an image of a rolled up Financial Times newspaper and includes the tagline, ‘Still guiding the way for global business’. The campaign will appear in selected print and digital titles as well as on digital outdoor screens in London.

The restructure means that Independent on Sunday editor, John Mullins, will leave the company and there are unconfirmed reports that there will also be as many as 20 job cuts. The jobs cuts have not been confirmed and the Independent says it will be consulting staff and says it wants to minimise any compulsory redundancies.

The changes were announced today in a memo to staff. The restructure will also see the Independent and the Evening Standard, both of which are owned by Alexander Lebedev, share a newsroom that will include a TV studio. See the full memo to staff below.

The news follows reports that Lebedev was on the hunt for a minority partner to help fund the Independent titles.

Lebedev purchased The Independent and the Independent on Sunday for £1 two-and-a-half years ago.

The titles – which are registered in the name of Lebedev’s son Evgeny – are forecast to make losses of around £14m in the forthcoming year. The size of the loss has been reduced due to recent cost-cutting and improved management of the titles.

Maybe he is, but we also know that the star of ‘Notting Hill’ likes to sample the competition as well as you can see in this picture here.

Maybe he is, but we also know that the star of ‘Notting Hill’ likes to sample the competition as well as you can see in this picture here.

Is that Grant carrying a rival newspaper? He must have The Guardian delivered. Grant has, of course, of late been very much in the news not for his film work, but for the Hacked Off campaign and its efforts to highlight phone hacking by national newspapers.

The new spot might not quite be in the same league as ‘Three Little Pigs’, but the ad, created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, is well worth your time.

The spot also highlights the launch of Cook, the Guardian’s new 16-page food and drink supplement. Cook will come free with every Saturday Guardian and will also feature in the Guardian and Observer iPad edition and Guardian Kindle edition.

The campaign has launched a new ad featuring Roxanna Green whose 9-year-old daughter was shot and killed in the Tucson Arizona shootings in 2011.

Green lost her daughter in the same shooting that claimed five other lives and which nearly claimed the life of US Representative Gabrielle Giffords during a public meeting held in a supermarket parking lot.

While Boris Johnson, riding on the tails of London’s Olympic glory, has taken the top spot in GQ’s 100 Most Influential Men in Britain in its February issue the media figures include bloggers, newspaper owners and columnists. The top media figure is Daily Mail owner Johnathan Harmsworth with indications that he is taking a more hands on approach to the business following the appointment of Geordie Greig at the Mail on Sunday last year.

The Mail scores very well in the list with Harmsworth joined by Mail Online editor, Martin Clarke, and Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre.

Harmsworth is at seven in the overall list with Lord Justice Leveson and Robert Jay QC just behind at joint eighth whose effect GQ says was “devastating” and together they have probably changed the way the British press operates forever.

The 21 media figures in the list of 100 include those from WPP, BSkyB, The Sun, The Times and BSkyB.

1. Johnathan Harmsworth (7), 4th Viscount Rothermere and chairman of Associated Newspapers and chairman of the Daily Mail.

2. Lord Justice Leveson and Robert Jay (8), presiding judge and lead counsel for the Leveson Inquiry.

3. Martin Clarke (11), editor of the Mail Online. The digital juggernaut that in November recorded its best ever month for traffic figures as it passed more than 112 million unique browsers. As the editor of the world’s biggest online newspaper he is seen a potential future editor of the Daily Mail and successor to Paul Dacre who is 77 in GQ’s list.

4. Lionel Barber (13), editor of the Financial Times. The paper has made a great move to digital and one that continues to make it pay. His next challenge could be involvement in the sale of the paper from Pearson.

5. Danny Finkelstein (17), the executive editor of The Times. Nicknamed “the fink” he is described as one of the best connected journalists in politics and nothing happens at The Time without his input.

6. Owen Jones (21), author of ‘Chavs the demonisation of the working class’, and Labour lefty the Independent newspaper columnist is a Twitter favourite with some.

7. Tony Hall (22), the incoming director general of the BBC. The chief executive of the Royal Opera House and a former director of BBC News, was been named director general at the end of last year having failed to get the job in 1999.

8. Adam Crozier, CEO of ITV. The former ad man continues to see the cash roll in from the X Factor and Britain’s got Talent.

9. Tony Gallagher (35) editor of The Daily Telegraph. Gallagher continues to steer Britain’s top selling broadsheet newspaper to circulation and profit success. The paper made £55.7m last year.

10. Dominic Mohan (43), editor of The Sun. The paper has had a rough year, but it is still the country’s biggest selling newspaper.

11. Jeremy Darroch (50), chief executive of BSkyB. Last year he told Sky over 10 million subscribers and its sponsorship of British cycling with Team Sky was perfectly timed for Olympic glory.

12. Sir Martin Sorrell (52), chief executive of WPP Group. He might not be popular with all WPP’s shareholders (that issue of his £12.4m salary), but he is the world’s most powerful ad man.

13. Ian Hislop (56), editor of Private Eye. After more than 26 years at Private Eye the satirical magazine is in rude health and hit is highest circulation for a quarter of a century (225,000).

14. Paul Staines and Harry Cole (59), editor and news editor of Guido Fawkes blog. The blog and the duo go from strength to strength.

15. Martin Wolf (63), associate editor and chief economic commentator of the Financial Times. The lone voice of Keynes-style economics in Britaina nd many are turning to him as the recovery fails to materialise.

16. David Allen Green (70), legal correspondent at the New Statesman and Jack of Kent blogger. Best known last year for winning for the defence what became known as the “Twitter joke trial”.

17. Paul Dacre (77), editor of the Daily Mail. A strong performance at Leveson, but increasingly looking over his shoulder at Mail Online editor, Martin Clarke, and Greig at the Mail on Sunday.

18. Alexander and Evgeny Lebedev, owners of the London Evening Standard, the Independent and i. The Standard remains a free powerhouse and even made a modest profit last year. Next challenge to find an investor to share the burden of print.

19. Richard Desmond (99), founder of Northern & Shell and owner of Express Newspapers. His papers, including the Daily Star, continue to do well and Channel 5 is apparently scoring well with younger audiences.
