Tim Davie: appointed to succeed John Smith as chief executive of BBC Worldwide in Oct 2012With the crisis surrounding the BBC showing no signs of abating this morning acting Director General Tim Davie, the former P&G and PepsiCo marketer, has walked out of an interview with Sky News. His speedy exit, as the cameras continued to roll, followed BBC Helen Boaden, the BBC’s director of news, and Stephen Mitchell, deputy head of news, stepping aside earlier this morning.

NBC London 2012 is most watched in US history as criticism mounts of zero Paralympic coverage

NBC reports record figures for London2012 despite #NBCfail social media attacksDespite high levels of criticism over its coverage NBC’s Olympic’s have become the most-watched TV event in US history.

The success of its coverage matched that of the BBC which delivered the biggest national television event since current measuring systems began with 51.9m or 90% of the UK population watching at least 15 minutes of coverage.

NBC said that 219m people watched London 2012 Games with an average of 31 million viewers watching Sunday’s closing ceremony. Read more »

Australia calls for Murdoch probe after TV piracy allegations

ITV Digital monkey - did the monkey get hacked?The hacking scandal just continues to spread. Following Monday night’s Panorama programme (‘Murdoch’s TV Pirates’), which centred on allegations that News Corporation-owned company NDS cracked the smart card codes of pay-TV rival ONdigital in an effort to undermine its business, there are now calls for a probe in Australia.

The BBC programme has also sparked an Ofcom investigation in the UK into the NDS claims, which look likely being echoed in Australia.

NDS is said to have led a pirate attack on  ONdigital/ITV Digital, owned by the then ITV companies Granada and Carlton, which eventually went under as a result of counterfeiting by pirates and onerous sports rights deals, leaving the pay-TV field clear for BSkyB. Read more »
