Daily Mail boss tops GQ’s list of Most Influential Media Men in Britain

While Boris Johnson, riding on the tails of London’s Olympic glory, has taken the top spot in GQ’s 100 Most Influential Men in Britain in its February issue the media figures include bloggers, newspaper owners and columnists. The top media figure is Daily Mail owner Johnathan Harmsworth with indications that he is taking a more hands on approach to the business following the appointment of Geordie Greig at the Mail on Sunday last year.

The Mail scores very well in the list with Harmsworth joined by Mail Online editor, Martin Clarke, and Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre.

ITV deals out disciplinary action for This Morning paedophile blunder

Phillip Schofield hands the Prime Minister a list of alleged paedophiles during a live interview last week. ITV has issued a statement saying it has taken disciplinary action against staff on its morning magazine programme, This Morning, following an incident last week that saw former children’s TV presenter, Phillip Schofield, hand the Prime Minister a list of alleged paedophiles during a live interview.

The surprise moment left many shocked and was widely condemned as an ”outrageous stunt”.

Australia calls for Murdoch probe after TV piracy allegations

ITV Digital monkey - did the monkey get hacked?The hacking scandal just continues to spread. Following Monday night’s Panorama programme (‘Murdoch’s TV Pirates’), which centred on allegations that News Corporation-owned company NDS cracked the smart card codes of pay-TV rival ONdigital in an effort to undermine its business, there are now calls for a probe in Australia.

The BBC programme has also sparked an Ofcom investigation in the UK into the NDS claims, which look likely being echoed in Australia.

NDS is said to have led a pirate attack on  ONdigital/ITV Digital, owned by the then ITV companies Granada and Carlton, which eventually went under as a result of counterfeiting by pirates and onerous sports rights deals, leaving the pay-TV field clear for BSkyB.
