Burger giant McDonald’s, home to the Big Mac quarter pounder, is to open a vegetarian-only restaurants in India next year marking a first for the fast-food chain.
The move follows up on existing changes to menus in its Indian restaurants where beef, seen as sacred by Hindus, and pork, seen as unclean by Muslims, have already been dropped from menus. Read more »
McDonald’s has stopped buying beef from a California meat supplier after federal inspectors temporarily shut down the plant because of “inhumane handling and treatment of livestock”.
The action was taken by the US Department of Agriculture followsthe emergence of shocking undercover video, shot by animal rights group, Compassion Over Killing, showing animals unable to stand and being mistreated at ”Central Valley Meat in California.
The video aired publicly on Tuesday on ABC News and shows workers using electric prods on cattle that can barely walk. Read more »
